Rodrigo Sánchez fav #2
It's always fun to hear great art-directors talk about their favorite magazine covers.
This month Coverjunkie asked Rodrigo Sánchez, Design Director from ace Metrópoli magazine about the favorite covers he designed himself:
Rodrigo's favorite designed covers
Favorite #2: The Thin Red LIne, February 1999:
"For its simplicity, its clarity, its obviousness and the gamble we took when we thought it up, did it and published it; for the terrible row I had with the newspaper´s directorate for going ahead with it. That cover represents a war movie whose advertising had bombarded TV´s , radios, billboards and every single advertising medium in town, and probably nationwide. I couldn´t go to print, on the very last day before the premiere, with something similar or a plain repeat of we had already been seeing for weeks. Added to the fact that the film´s original artwork was quite good, i seem to recall it was large close-ups of three very frightened soldiers. Both dramatic and effective. I decided to go obvious…completely obvious. Sometimes the simplest solution becomes the most complex of them all and vice-versa. I stand by my decision and I am proud of the result. The cover caught our reader´s attention…and that of my directors."
