Q (UK)
New Q magazine
Editor: Ted Kessler.
Art Director: Daniel Knight.
Picture Editor: Marian Paterson.
The cover image was shot on Bigshot Polaroid as photographer Colin Lane explains…
“Shooting St. Vincent for this month’s Q cover story was a dream job. Firstly, it was a pleasure to work with someone so super-cool and down to earth – Annie [Clark] has total confidence in herself and really worked with me to get the best shots possible. Secondly, this shoot was special because I got to use my Bigshot camera for the cover. The Bigshot is a strange camera made by Polaroid from 1971-73. It has a fixed focal length as it’s only meant to shoot head and shoulders. Andy Warhol used this camera a lot for his portraits. I found my first Bigshot camera in my parents’ attic when I was a kid and now I have five of them. I’ve been shooting Bigshot portraits since about 1994: I shot The Strokes’ Ass Shot [the cover of their debut album] with one, but this is the first magazine cover I’ve shot with it.”
