The red sun on the Japanese flag is pretty popular these days, here a cover out of 1945 from Time magazine.

Time has done the cross-design cover only on 4 occasions. When Hitler's Germany surrendered in 1945. When Japan surrendered in August 1945.
In 2003 Saddam Hussein got the famous X treatment when Baghdad fell. And Abu Musab al-Zarqawi makes the fourth.
